Legacy Youth Zone has announced the amazing results of the M R Scaffolding and I See Apps Charity Golf Day which raised £55,937 for the Croydon based youth organisation. Held on June 25th 2025 at The Addington Golf Course over 100 supporters, businesses and community leaders came together to support vital youth services across the borough.
Organised in partnership with Legacy Youth Zone trustees Indy Chatwal and John Trayfoot the fundraising event showed the power of community partnerships in youth development. The money raised will go directly towards sustaining Legacy’s range of services for young people aged 8-19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs.
Legacy Youth Zone works on a simple but powerful principle: for just £5 per year and 50p per visit young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 with additional needs) can access a world of opportunities. Within the Youth Zone’s walls they find a recording studio where future musicians find their voice, a gym where confidence is built one rep at a time, cookery rooms where life skills are learned and art spaces where creativity flourishes.
But most importantly they find safety and belonging in a world that doesn’t always offer either to young people.
The stats tell a sobering story about the challenge Legacy faces. With annual operating costs of around £1.5 million the organisation relies on donations for over 85% of its funding. Corporate sponsorships, private sector support and philanthropic giving isn’t just helpful – it’s essential to keep the doors open.
The golf day brought together over 100 guests each playing a direct role in sustaining Legacy’s mission. One of the highlights of the day was a £20,000 match fund donation from Ryan Noades, Managing Director of The Addington Golf Club, showing the kind of leadership that inspires others to give.
The day wasn’t just about golf. Guests were treated to a fantastic performance and motivational speech from Levi Roots, a proud supporter of the charity. In a recent Instagram post Roots said he was “buzzing” to be involved with Legacy and how youth work is key to keeping kids safe. He was joined by Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon, adding civic support to the day’s activities.Personal testimony wasn’t lost on the audience. Two Legacy Youth Zone members gave speeches that brought the organisation’s impact into sharp focus and reminded everyone why their support is so important.
For trustees like Indy Chatwal the day was more than just a successful fundraising event. “This day was about more than just golf,” Chatwal said. “It was about giving back to the young people of Croydon. We’re blown away by the generosity and we’re already looking forward to doing it again in 2026.”
Fellow trustee John Trayfoot summed up what Legacy means to the community: “Legacy Youth Zone is a lifeline for many young people. To see so many people come together to support our mission was incredibly moving.”
The funds raised will go directly to the services and facilities that make Legacy unique. Every pound will help maintain safe spaces where young people can explore their potential, learn new skills, and gain the confidence they need to navigate an increasingly complex world.
Legacy Youth Zone is part of the national OnSide Network of Youth Zones, which combines local effect with proven national expertise. This network-based strategy guarantees that best practices are shared, and young people across the country benefit from collective learning and assistance.
Legacy’s inclusive environment serves as a model for communities to support their youth. By removing financial barriers and giving a variety of options, the organization ensures that a young person’s past does not dictate their future.
As the golf clubs were packed up and the final thank-yous were exchanged, the day’s impact was only beginning. The roughly £56,000 raised will help many young people on their paths of discovery, progress, and success.
For the young people of Croydon who will benefit from this generosity, the M R Scaffolding and I See Apps Golf Day offered something priceless: the knowledge that their community believes in them and their potential. The success of this event demonstrates that amazing things happen when a community comes together around a common goal.
