During Water Action Month, members of End Water Poverty organise events and activities to raise awareness of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) related issues.

Titled Youth Week! Hope Spring Water’s contribution to Water Action Month 2017, is focused on raising awareness of WASH among young people. Most of the planned events will take place in Nigeria, Hope Spring’s most active theatre of operation. Asked why WAM 2017 is focused on the youth, Hope Spring country director for Nigeria, Mr Temple Oraeki said, “WASH awareness among Nigerian youths is poor and schools offer one of the best opportunity to promote awareness and lay a strong WASH foundation”.

More than 63 million Nigerian lack access to clean, drinking water. With many of the affected people having to walk several miles daily, to access water. The burden of feting water for the family falls mainly on children and women. Mr Oraeki hopes the awareness created by WAM 2017, will help informed the youth and create interest in finding solution to problems created by lack of clean water and poor hygiene.
