Mysterious LG KE990 Gets FCC Approval

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

A new high-end LG phone has just been approved by FCC: LG KE990, a GSM / EDGE device with Bluetooth support. Unfortunately,
this is all the info known about the handset and there is not even a picture of it available. This is because both LG and Samsung have recently kept very quiet about their future handsets for the US market and asked FCC not to publish photos or too many details about the approved phones, until official launches approach.

Anyway, if we look at the phone’s name, KE990 seems to be the successor of the KU990 model from LG, also known as LG Viewty, which I suppose you all know is a very good looking handset. So LG KE990’s design most probably resembles the one that LG Viewty came with.

New Cell Phone Batteries to Last for Months

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Researchers from Stanford University have discovered a new way to use silicon nanowires in rechargeable batteries that power mobile phones, laptops,
video cameras, iPods and other similar devices. The new batteries will be able to store up to ten times more electrical power than existing Li-Ion batteries.

“It’s not a small improvement. It’s a revolutionary development”, said Yi Cui, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, who lead the research for the new battery technology.

Thanks to the new concept, a mobile phone that now has a stand-by time of 6 days could operate for 60 days with a single full battery charge. The same goes for laptops, video cameras and other devices – they will be able to provide a much longer operating time compared to the one they are currently capable of. (more…)

No N-Gage This Year, Nokia Delays It For 2008

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

N-Gage, the mobile gaming platform from Nokia, initially planned to be launched in November this year, was delayed again,
after a first delay that postponed its launch for this month (December 2007). Although mobile gamers and Nokia fans were eager to try the N-Gage platform this holiday season, the Finnish company had to delay the launch again, the reason for this being some “unexpected difficulties”, as posted on the official N-Gage blog. Most probably, the platform will be ready at the beginning of 2008 and, hopefully, there will be no more delays.

Nokia wants N-Gage to be perfect and tests every little aspect of its functionality, and after all it’s better that the aforementioned difficulties were found before the platform’s release. No one would like bugs or unexpected errors to ruin the fun, right? “We have been doing an internal run with more than 1,000 global testers this week, and during this process we uncovered an issue we feel we need to address. Overall, the games and service are working smoothly, but because of this issue, we feel we could not release N-Gage First Access before the holidays as planned,” is stated on the N-Gage official blog.
