A pretty tasteless yet somehow useful device from Thanko

The Japanese are quite inventive people, I’ll give you that, but they sometimes come up with the weirdest things. And
the device I’m about to show you, namely the gold ingot USB hub, really fits the profile, since it’s one of the kitchest devices I’ve ever seen.

Why? Well, first of all, it looks like a prop taken out from the set of a B-category pirate movie, and we’re not even talking about a good-quality prop. Yes, it’s shiny, metallic-looking and does bear a slight resemblance to a real ingot, I’ll give you that, but that’s where all the similarities end. Thus, the device is quite clearly inscribed with the words “Gold Ingot Hub” and “Fake Gold”, so that everyone will know that it’s just an electronic device and nothing more (yea, as if anyone would have mistaken it for the real deal), and features 8 USB ports on the side.

Here are the most important specs this “pirate’s USB hub” has to offer:

- dimensions: 196 x 73 x 49 mm;
- weight: 2350 g;
- interface: USB 1.1 / 2;
- features 8 active USB ports;
- powered via the AC adapter.

The only great thing about this ….well, peculiar device (not to call it plain ol’ crappy) is its price. It costs just around 40 Euro, which is quite a small sum, especially considering the fact that the device sports 8 USB ports, even if in a fake gold body.
